    Hotpoint Single electric oven review

    5/5
This Hotpoint oven is an updated version of the one that was had previously, and is much improved on the old one (which was about 6 years old) We chose to install this integrated oven ourselves, and it was easy to do, the only 'installation' is plugging a regular 3-pin plug in and slotting the oven into the right place. Once installed the manual advises to turn the cooker on for a period of time before actually putting food in it. I am impatient, so didn't do this and our first meal tasted fine! The oven has a multitude of different functions, some of which I will probably use only once or twice if at all as I am no master pastry chef, but it is nice to have the option if I ever feel adventurous! We are a family of four so a reliable oven is a must, and this one definitely fits the bill. It is well built, easy to use and cooks everything as it should. The grill function heats up impressively quickly , and there is also a turbo option for larger joints. The main oven function can be conventional (no fan), forced air, eco forced air (which prevents food from drying out - but in actual fact I noticed no difference between this and forced air, but have only tried it once!) and then a range of specialist functions like pastry, pizza, rising, and bread. The oven also has a cleaning function, you put cold water into the bottom of the oven then switch on the diamond clean function. Its a low temp clean cycle that means you can avoid using harsh chemicals that might taint future meals. The controls are mostly simple to use, a dial to choose the function, a dial to choose the temperature and then four touch buttons, one for light, one for clock setting and then up and down. There is a digital display where you can set the time to be displayed constantly. I found setting the time easy but learning to use the timer function and end cook function a little tricky but after a few goes had got it sorted. The warm up time is speedy compared to our last oven, and there is a little temp gauge that flashes during warm up time and remains light when it is at the correct temperature. The oven comes with one wire shelf (I would have preferred two) one baking tray and one deeper 'drip tray'. I was expecting a wire rack to fit inside this drip tray as a traditional grill tray. There are 5 shelf positions available which gives you a lot of options for whatever you want to cook, and you can cook a lot of food in the oven at once! It's a 71L oven, and although it is the same size overall than the older model it is more spacious inside (so the old grill tray wouldn't fit, shame!) The stainless steel exterior and tinted black glass door look really sleek (although fingerprints show easily - a tip is to use baby oil and wipe off!) and the handle is sturdy. The door and glass can be easily cleaned when necessary, and the door can be removed quite simply too. The door does get hot during cooking but not too hot to touch, even after the oven being on for 1.5 hours. Apart from the lack of 2nd wire tray and the slightly tricky timing operations is that the beep that signifies that timing is done is quite quiet. Also the markings on the temperature dial go up in 20degree increments, so if you want a 150degree temperature you just have to hope you've got it set right between the two marked temperatures either side, not a major problem but something to be aware of. Overall it's a great size oven, which looks great in our kitchen and works exactly as it should.

A fabulous, easy to use oven with many functions

    5/5
My oven was wearing out and I needed something to replace, however I wanted something a little more snazzier and up to date, which this really was. With a digital time/timer, this makes a wonderful tinkling sound. Easy to use functions with even a bread function, I mean, what? Bread? Yes, bread! A very easy to clean oven that looks the part. It's super quiet when in use and the energy consumption is so low, I can cook for hours and it isn't costing me the earth. I can see clearly through the glass so I can check my bakes instead of having to open the oven and let the heat out. This is one snazzy, affordable and easy to use oven that is simply, perfect.

Love my new oven except .....................

The oven looks good, heats up very quickly and works very well. It is also very easy to clean. However there are a couple of niggles - you can't hear the timer beep unless you are right next to it and the dials are too easy to move accidentally, you only have to brush against one with a tea towel to change the cooking temperature! This didn't help my Yorkshire puddings!

    Great oven

    5/5
The oven is great, I mostly use the fan setting (to cook at the same temp over 2/3 shelves) The oven takes about 7 minutes to heat up to 200 which is even quicker than out old oven The oven comes with a wire tray, baking tray and deep drip tray, I did worry I would struggle with just one wire rack but you can easily use the baking tray so no need to buy another rack. The oven is really easy to clean just st a wipe out with warm water once it’s cooled off is enough but for more baked in foods you can use the steam clean. The display is good and I the timers and clock are really easy to use. The only downside to this oven is the timer beep, I had read it was very quiet but I didn’t think it would be as quiet as it is. If you have an extractor fan on or a pan on the hob and are stood in front of the oven you can’t hear the beep at all. Overall a great oven, lots of cooking options, quick to heat up and easy to use.

    Absolutely brilliant oven!

Our Zanussi packed up last year so we decided to replace it with this Hotpoint as the reviews were positive and the running costs relatively low. It has an A+ energy rating which is also great for the environment. Having owned this for 6 weeks and being put through it's paces hosting a family Christmas meal, decided to write an honest review. When it arrived it was very easy to install and run through it's first use. This oven has various functions and cooking settings including fan assisted with the preheating time being very short (0-220C in approximately 5 minutes!). The manual has quite a few recipes and lets you know which setting you need for whatever you're cooking. My partner is an avid baker and has been using the bread setting when making his loaves; he loves it. It has a water trough at the bottom for steaming (which produces the best crusty bread!) It comes with one large rack shelf. a large baking tray shelf, and a roasting tin shelf. These are relatively light and cool down extremely quickly so you don't need to worry about leaving it out with pets/children around. The capacity is also more than enough to feed 5 hungry adults so would very much suit small armies/medium sized families. The timer is also very easy to use although can be a little on the quiet side; this appliances only drawback. It's not so much of an issue for us as we have an open plan kitchen/living room, but I can see how it might be an issue if you have separate spaces.

Oven fine, cable needs to be bit longer, also could do with another wire rack, would also have liked wire rack to fit in grill pan.

    Not a good oven

I bought this oven because it was fan assisted. So I t didn't take long to heat up. This oven takes 20minutes to heat up to the 200 which most things have to be. I would not recommend this oven at all, the worst oven I have ever bought.
