Be very careful when using light pans

    1/5
..they just slide off. Two of the three in my household have been burnt by pans sliding off our new Smeg S64S hob. Its fine with Le Crueset etc, but with light pans its dangerous. You need to hold the pan at all times. It looks good, it lights fine, it's quiet, but if i hadn't already paid to have it installed and our old one scrapped, i would send it back.

    Value for money

    4/5
My new smeg gas hob is good value for money, easy to use and looks good. I haven't manage to boil anything over on it yet so can't say how easy it is to clean, but at the moment got some ordinary stainless steel cleaner and that seems to do the trick.

    The Knack

    4/5
This hob looks great, and works well, but there is a knack to igniting the jets. The instructions say, push down, turn and hold down for 2 secs. I was doing this, but mostly the jets went out when I let go, even when I held it down for 10 secs. However, I now know there are two levels to pushing down. So to light this jet you have to push down an extra bit to make sure the flames 'stick'. It's not hard to do, but the instructions don't explain this, so I had a frustrating first week trying to ignite the jets consistently.
