The worst hob I've ever used. Not fit for purpose!

    1/5
Firstly, this is a review on the product, not on AO. AO have been faultless on their service, from delivery to after sales, brilliant! Sadly, this hob (and as I'm led to believe from the very unhelpful people at AEG - all AEG induction hobs are he same), is absolutely not fit for purpose. I don't understand how this has so many brilliant reviews, as AEG refuse to accept the product is faulty, all the problems are a 'feature' of design! The 'Power Management' feature basically means only one burner can be used at a time, and is apparently the same on all Induction hobs. You will not be able to have all hobs anywhere near full power, even using just two hobs reduces the power to each significantly. The heat settings go from 1-14, but anything below 10 is almost useless and anything above 10 will only work if you have one hob active. The noise is terrible and the whistling noise (and yes, we have the correct pans), would send dogs mad even at half a mile away (It was audible over the noise of an extractor and a washing machine). Residual heat below the hob is a serious problem if you intend to use it above a cupboard or drawers, it would not be suitable. The heat setting regularly appears to change and have a mind of its own. I wanted two pans on 10, but the Hob seems to think it'll have one on 10 and flick the other one to 8. Thankfully AO have been brilliant with helping rid my home of this hateful bit of kit. Avoid, and as AEG confirms, all their induction hobs use the same power management feature, I'd give all AEG hobs a wide birth as well.

    Good but not great

    3/5
I have moved over to this hob from a ceramic cooker and have already used a small single ring induction cooker which I was impressed with so in writing this review I keep comparing this hob with my previous ones. I'll start with the positives: it looks great, it's quiet even when the internal fan is on, it has separate heat controls for each ring, it has adjustable heat surface which was the main selling point for me and it boils water very fast on boost setting. The negatives: there is a massive power drop from boost to the next setting (14) and then the other smaller heat settings become completely useless. I don't understand why they put 14 different levels when there's only a tiny difference between them. My small induction cooker decreases the heat in 10% increments so I feel fully in control of the heat setting, with the AEG they might as well just had 4 settings 25, 50, 75 and 100%. Also the glass surface is very slippery so the pots keep moving and as there are no rings to mark the edge of the hearing area you have no idea where to place the pot and have to keep lifting off to see where to put it back. Does it work? Yes Am I impressed? No Would I recommend this specific model to my friends? No Would I recommend induction? Yes -it is the future but AEG need to improve on this model.

    Great product so far

Great product. Allows you to have a larger pan on the hob and all surface will be heated. Downside is how sensitive it can be. If it identifies anything on the hob it may start beeping - such as cleaning spray or pan is resting on top when hob is off.

    Happy with purchase

Really nice that it can be used for larger pans across 2 'burners', giving more flexibility. Not sure it is as quick as boiling a pan of water as the last AEG hob we replaced. Seems to be a good brand for hobs though, the last one was 8 years old and had no problems - until a glass bottle fell on the very old and cracked it. Was happy to get AEG for a second time.
