Disappointing Compared To Older Model
2/5
We have owned a fantastic george foreman for over 15 years before having to replace it with this one of comparable size and cost and it's quite disappointing tbh.
This new model seems very poor quality compared to the old model in materials, functionally and design.
The new drip tray design which slots into place is great but that seems to be the only improvement in over a decade.
For a start it uses 800W MORE electricity than our old one of the same portion size. That's mad!
Black plastic replaces stainless steel.
There is no On/Off button so you need to remember to switch it off at the wall socket. Also lacking are any display, timer function and audible "ready" beeps. All replaced by a red power and green ready light like you find on a cheap generic sandwich toaster.
Compared to our previous model it is wider by 3 inches but not as deep, so for us at least there seems less actual usable cooking area.
The edges don't seem to heat up as much and the top plate seems to cook much hotter than the base plate.
The fold-out back foot doesn't grip that well so the whole grill can slide about the worktop a bit when you open the lid.
TO SUM UP
Others may love it but for us it was just disappointing.
I mean it does cook food as advertised. Just not as much of it, not as evenly, and it uses much more electricity in the process.
Next time it needs replaced, which I'm sure will be a lot sooner than the last one, I'll happily pay less for a cheap non branded generic grill of the same quality.
