Faults & repairs needed, average performance, Rangemaster support poor

    2/5
Within two months the oven door catch fell off inside the door which has been clunky on two of these I owned. After six months or so the fan oven element failed. When you call Rangemaster all repairs are outsourced to another company, and the staff there cut me off twice telling me to hold. The excellent AO team contacted them and did a conference call while the repair details were taken and I was told I would be contacted in 24 to 48 hours as AO customers get moved up the queue, and given a repair number. I heard nothing for nearly a fortnight. When I called Rangemaster again, they said it wasn't one of their repair numbers and took the details again and a booking for the following week, so will be waiting three weeks for a repair. Rangemaster's repair company are poor to deal with, staff sound bored and as I say had to call AO the first time to get any help from them. Apart from these issues - and I had previously owned a Rangemaster Classic in 2015 which needed a repair when new as the clock fitting was not attached properly - I'm not impressed with this brand. It looks good but in operation is no better than much cheaper brands. This replaced another well known brand's basic function ceramic cooker which seemed solid and dependable but there are no basic product benefits (eg experience of actually cooking food) from the Rangemaster costing hundreds more. For example, the heat distribution of the hob rings seem patchy (noticeable most when using a frying pan) and time to heat up is not speedier etc, and neither is baking even, all things you would expect from a superior product. I wouldn't buy this brand again - I previously tried to contact them about the lack of detail in oven sizing specs for a kitchen fitting, which took me all round the houses on the phone and still didn't get the information or sign anyone cared. They are positioned as a high end brand with a good reputation, but frankly I think this comes from Aga and the lifestyle marketing: the customer service and product (apart from the looks) is no better and in my experience really lacking compared to competitively priced brands.

    Rangemaster cooker

    5/5
A well made item with a variety of cooking possibilities. The finish is good quality being a lot better than cheaper ones. The pan rings are not as powerful as other makes but that probably means the top will keep better. It was well packed.

    Nice cooker

    5/5
The build quality of the cooker is first class. The hobs reach temperature very quickly and are just the right diameter for most pots and pans. The browning featureally is a nice feature on the grill and it cooks perfect cheese on toast without burning the edges. Fantastic colour, really compliments our units.

A fair quality cooker but with some disappointing design flaws at this price point

    4/5
This cooker seems quite well built and cooks quite consistently. The 4 top rings are split into 2 x large and 2 x smaller ones, both quite powerful and capable of boiling reasonably quickly when needed. The top surface glass seal around the edges seems like silicon sealant, so not great and will have to see how long it lasts. The ovens are fine and the ability to turn the main oven fan OFF is useful. The support racks for the oven shelves are rather flimsy. At install, the power connection is also very lightweight and rather flimsy and the insulating cover and power cable strain relief design seem surprisingly poor so you will have to be careful the cable is not strained when moving in and out to clean. Side panels are disappointingly just black painted rather than matching the cream fascia and visible when the cooker is in it's niche. This is pretty cheapskating at the p[rice. Control knobs are quite positive in action, but the small lever protrudes so easy to knock and turn on, or alter setting inadvertently. The grill works OK but hard to see inside so you have to pull the grill tray out to see how well browned the food has become, but the handle is detachable and impossible to see how to attach except when the tray is at least partly out of the grill, while it does not latch in place so can become detached or fall off all together in use if knocked - this is actually a POOR design. The need to use a separate push-fit heat deflector if using the grill for >15 mins is a VERY POOR industrial design flaw and obviously a shoddy afterthought to prevent overheating the control knobs - the shape of the front panel should have been made to deflect the heat like other brand models. Overall quite a sturdy device compared with cheaper alternatives, but the design flaws are disappointing and the power connector design should be urgently addressed as it does not appear particularly safe. The detail design and strength of parts are not great considering the price, but compared to many others this is a little more robust. At £699 rrp I would say this is somewhat over-priced - probably reflecting the cost of low volume manufacturing rather than significantly superior construction. There were NO Classic 60 electric cookers available for inspection at any dealer for about a year of searching so had to buy "sight unseen" based on the quality of the parent Co AGA's reputation. This is NOT up to AGA range standards but of course is substantially cheaper. The Leisure GRB6CV is £200 cheaper and a similar style, but a little closer to the ground so oven access not as good, but if on a budget or wanting a larger supplier/better availability and viewable at a showrooms this may be better value for money, though a little flimsier construction. Durability will be determined over time and will have to see if I can live with the poor industrial design ergonomics.
